Gifts from individuals, businesses, and foundations help First Night to accomplish its unique work of building community and celebrating diversity through the arts.  As a private, nonprofit cultural organization, we depend upon your generosity, not only to produce our citywide arts festival on New Year’s Eve, but also to conduct related community-based arts education programs for Boston’s kids all year long.


Why First Night?

First Night is one of Boston’s Signature Events.  Along with Boston’s 4th of July Celebration on the Esplanade and The Boston Marathon, First Night is one of only a few signature celebrations that is both a tradition and a symbol of the City.

First Night Builds Community.  Each year, more than one million people of all ages and backgrounds gather in downtown Boston to celebrate our city and the promise of a new year.

First Night Celebrates Diversity.  First Night collaborates with artists, community groups, and young people from all of Boston’s neighborhoods to create original works of art that are shared in exhibitions and performances presented in neighborhood venues during the year and at the festival on December 31.

First Night Contributes to Boston's Economy.  First Night makes a significant impact on the local economy, annually generating millions of dollars in revenues for area hotels, restaurants, and other businesses.
